Could your business afford to pay 25% towards employee wages?

The UK government is apparently looking at plans which would see employers contribute 25% towards employee wages from August onwards. While few would argue that the UK government has been “generous” with coronavirus-related funding, could your afford to pay 25% towards employee wages or would this push your business to the brink?

The problem here is cash flow, many businesses will take months to get back to anywhere near normality and very few will be able to afford a 25% contribution to staffing costs unless they are back in business. The truth is the government has been more than generous in its financial packages and at some point this tap will be turned off.
