Common Questions about Apprenticeships

I've put together a few basic Questions and Answers about Apprenticeships which you may find useful. If you have any more Questions you feel should be answered in this post, just post below and I'll get straight on it!

What is an Apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships are a great way to learn and gain qualifications whilst you are on the job. You also get paid whilst you are learning, so it's a great move if you want to gain practical skills.

How do I learn with an Apprenticeship?
Depending on your training provider, will depend on what the training is like. It could be classroom based, in a workshop or it could remain in your work place. It is essentially a set of qualifications called a 'framework' developed by Sector Skills Councils.

What kind of Apprenticeships are there?
Apprenticeships are available in practically every sector and job category you can think of. There are around 200 different types of apprenticeships, and over 1000 different job types on offer around the UK.

What is the advantage of an Apprenticeship
  • You get to learn whilst on the job.
  • You can work your way up the companies ranks throughout the apprenticeship.
  • You are able to learn at your own pace, whilst having qualified workers around you to support you.
  • Your job is more secure if you work through an apprenticeship.

I hope these have cleared up the basics of an apprenticeship, but if not, ask in the forums and you will definitely get a reply that will clear your question up for you.
