Can everything in the temp folder be deleted

Hello techies,

I have been having resources issues with my laptop for about a week....when i think they have been solved,....bang....they come back.

I followed all the instructions and advice given to me....all good....including one which said delete all you TMP file. I did this using the Windows XP Disc clear up tool.

However when I did a manual look yesterday at the TEMP folder....there were over 32,000 TMP files still there....so I deleted them manually. Laptop some 14 hours later, is running marvelously!! Programmes, not hanging.

There are still some files and folders in the TEMP folder, (file not TMP files) can but they are still using about 3.2mb of space....(which is nothing). My question is this. Can everything in the TEMP folder be deleted?

In general yes everything in the temp folder can be deleted. If in double back it up, delete the contents, and if any errors for missing files come up you can restore the file from the backup.

system tools > disk cleanup in windows is the software already included in windows which allows you to clean the temp folder as well as a few others bits and bobs. Personally I would suggest using it rather than free trial software.

You should be careful as well when using registry optimisers they can do an awful lot more harm than good.

Make sure all the updates are applied to it as well not only Windows, but Office and other peices of software.

There is a free piece of software CCleaner which will scan your system for temporary files, cookies, all that junk and the erase it safely for you.
