Food and drink businesses from across the Highlands and Islands are being called upon to enter the 2016 Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards.
Last year’s Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards saw a 39% increase in the number of entries – making it a record breaking year. There are hopes that this year will build upon this and the legacy of the Year of Food & Drink.
Entries are being accepted in categories ranging from the Young Shining Star and Restaurant of the Year to Export and Healthier Food & Drink. A new Innovation category has also been launched to tie in with 2016’s Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design.
The awards, now in their 12th year, are delivered with support from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). Elaine Jamieson, Head of Food and Drink at HIE said:
“We’re delighted to be able to support the awards again this year. Extraordinarily skilled, passionate and enthusiastic people drive the food and drink industry, with immense pride in their products and region. The event is an excellent opportunity to celebrate their work and the world-class contribution that the Highlands and islands make to the food and drink industry.
“Innovation in particular is something that runs consistently through the food and drink sector. So in this Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design, we’re particularly pleased to be supporting the Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards committee in a new award category which will recognise and promote innovation.”

The closing date for entries is Friday 6th May and the shortlist will be announced on Wednesday 29th June. Winners will be revealed at a sumptuous gala dinner in the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness on Friday 21st October.
