Just wondering how the Local County Councils budget cuts are affecting the members here.
South Ayrshire Council seems to be committing hari-kari, and the old "doonfoot divide" is live and living, with the Council sacrificing everything south of the Doon to chase those few and elusive american tourists that come over and spend thousands of pounds on shortbread Scotland (Which for Aryshire equates to one night in Ayr looking at the Burns stuff).
Our small town has been left high and dry as the council close down necessary local facilities. Whilst at the same time asking us what they think they should do to attract more tourists into the area.
We also have a budget of £3m for roads this year, and a report stating that £38m is needed to maintain the current standard (let alone improve them)
I know that a lot of the councils are under pressure, what with sending all that money off to Iceland after the banks credit ratings got downgraded, so are the South Ayrshire problems being replicated throughout the country?
It will be interesting to hear?
