1. Find out more
To find out if an Apprenticeship is really for you the our website is useful source of information with a detailed Q&A section, sector information and case studies. To see highly skilled apprentices in action, try out new skills for yourself and receive the latest careers advice, you might like to visit The Skills Show -Europe’s largest skills and careers event, which is being held at the NEC Birmingham from 15-17 November.
2. Find Apprenticeship job vacancies
The best way to search and apply for Apprenticeship jobs is to register on Apprenticeship vacancies; the official online recruitment system for Apprenticeships in England. There are around 10,000 vacancies being advertised at any one time.
3. Concentrate on your application
The information you enter when you register on Apprenticeship vacancies appears on each application form, so make sure you check what you have written. Don’t use abbreviations and check spelling and punctuation throughout your application.
4. Check your contact details
Make sure you have an appropriate email address and voice mail message on your phone – you don’t want to give employers the wrong impression.
5. Set search criteria
You can search for vacancies in various ways including by key word, location, job role or occupation type. You can also set up text and email alerts, to be notified when new vacancies that meet your preferences become available.
6. Apply for more than one vacancy
You can apply for 10 vacancies at any one time but remember to regularly log on to your “My Home Page” to keep track of their progress.

Make yourself stand out from the competition on your application form. Don’t just give two word answers. Include paid and voluntary work and try to communicate your strengths and what your can contribute to the organisation.
8. Prepare well for your interview
Research the organisation, show and prepare a couple of questions to ask the employer at interview. Try and think about the questions your might get asked and prepare draft answers.
9. Don’t be put off by rejections
There can be a lot of competition for some Apprenticeship vacancies. If you are not successful at first, don’t be put off. Ask for feedback and try again.
