Hello everyone!
My name is Lisa, I am Greek and I am living in Scotland. I am interested in an apprenticeship but unfortunately I am a bit confused. I am a graphic designer, am 33 years old and I want to broaden my horizons in digital design and marketing. So I thought that an apprenticeship in this industry would be ideal for me to gain knowledge and experience. Also, I cannot find a job as a graphic designer here in Scotland because graphic designers here are web designers as well and unfortunately I don't have any experience in web design/development.
I have some questions and any help would be very much appreciated.
First of all I don't know if I am qualified for an apprenticeship cause during my research I have seen requirements that I cannot "translate" them in my education from Greece. For example:
Junior Marketing Digital Designer Apprenticeship:
"You will ideally possess a minimum of 5 National 5 (Credit standard grades) or equivalent including Maths, English and ideally ICT" - I don't understand any of this... or "You must have at least 5 standard grades at level 1-3, or equivalent, including Maths and English"
In Greece, when we finish high school, we gain a certificate called "Award of Apolytirio of Lykeio". My high school was a "Technical Professional / Vocational School" and the field I studied is "Graphic Design and Fine Arts".
After gaining the "Award of Apolytirio of Lykeio" (which means high school) in GD & Fine Arts, I went to a "Vocational Training Institute" and gained a "Diploma of Vocational Training / Accreditation" in Applied Arts - Desktop Publishing Graphics Technician.
My English teacher in Greece, translated these two qualifications as follows:
1) Award of Apolytirio of Lykeio: GCSE equivalent plus A levels in Graphic Design & Fine Arts
2) Diploma of Vocational Training / Accreditation: HND equivalent
But I don't know if this is correct!
So my question is, can I do an apprenticeship? And in general it would be very helpful if someone could tell me if my teacher has translated my qualifications correctly, cause that's the way I have written them in my cv and if that's wrong maybe I should correct it.
Thank you very much for your time and I am truly sorry for the massive text above! If you need any other details in order to answer my question I would be more than happy to give them.
