Do you still use business cards?

Are physical business cards still useful, or has everyone moved completely to LinkedIn and QR codes?

Both still have a place, and the answer depends on where the networking happens. At UK trade shows, Chamber of Commerce breakfasts and local BNI-style meetings, a physical card still gets handed over more often than not. Plenty of older buyers and tradespeople in the UK simply won't scan a QR code on the spot, and a card in the pocket survives the journey home better than a half-remembered name.

Where cards fall down is follow-up. Most end up in a drawer, so the smart move is a hybrid: a plain, well-designed card with a QR code linking to a LinkedIn profile or a simple contact page. Costs next to nothing from any UK online printer.

Quick rule of thumb:

• Face-to-face events: carry cards, but connect on LinkedIn the same day.
• Online-only leads: skip the card entirely.
