Hello techy types,

I don't quite understand what is happening here. Several pages I try to open...(and it can happen on this forum too)...they open about 90-95% then just hang there. So for expample....I may be replying to a thread....but all I can see is the subjuect line,....the main box won't appear. Of course this happen with other sites too.

Now I swithched back over to my IE7 and no such problems.

I like Firefox, not least because i find it safe for surfing and I like it functionallity.

Is it me...or is it Firefox?
Many thanks

More than likely its your internet connection as it is working fine for me. But on saying that the only page I do have problems with is my extreme tracking page for my website. I can only view the stats if I close my bookmark column. This has been ongoing since I upgraded to version 3

If its working with IE7 then it cant be your internet connection, the first thing i would do is create a new FF profile and see if that clears the problem, Support Website Forums is a good place to get answers to problems and you can find out how to create a new profile.

Hi Gordon,

I have had that problem a few times as well , it drives me mad.

I updated all my extensions and uninstalled the ones that were non-compatible with 3.0 and it seems to be fine now.

it tended to happen as well if you used the save and quit function (which is so handy i love it) it tends to grind to a halt sometimes, but not always.

there has been an update to 3.0 released so that might fix it as well.

let us know how you get on

I too seem to be having problems with FireFox over the past ten-fourteen days or so. The program will occasionally stop responding, often hanging half way through a page.

Shutting the program down and attempting to re-start produces odd results. I close it down as normal and try to re-start but I then get a window up saying FireFox isn't responding and needs to be re-started. Yet it's not 'there' in Task Manager. Same thing happens when I use task manager to shut down the 'hung' FireFox....

The only solution is to re-start the PC...

This is happening across FOUR PCs of ours; two desktops and two laptops and it happened on my laptop whilst using it in a hotel in Wales last week.. So it's not the connection that's at fault.

All our machines are running XP pro...

Don't know about anyone else, but my FF3 install took an update today. Not sure what it included - will check the release notes later. You never know that might be an issue covered in it the update.

Gordon

yeah i had mine a couple of days ago, i haven't checked the release notes but it hasn't happened since.

I guess there is always going to be bugs in these software programmes.

Which extensions do you have?
Sorry Heather...I have no idea....honestly I am just a user of the computer.

When you asked me that question, I was reminded of the story about when I took our car to the garage....and I asked what was wrong with it. The mechanice said, "Just crap in the carburettor." I said, "How long should I do that for!!" :D

Tom and Matt,

Thanks for the reply...I don't feel so bad now.

However there are thing I still need to do IE7 as they just don't seem to work now on FF.

I use a simple tool called Sitebuilder....(Web designers take a sharp intake of breath!!)...but much of its functionality will only work on IE7 now.

Sigh....

The more I look into this the more I think FireFox has serious problems.

My laptop has been running really slowly since I got FF3 and yesterday, it was about to be consigned to the history books. At first I thought, well a virus has got through, so ran a standalone programme last night...called Stinger...and no virus was found. So that part was good news.

But still the machine was running slowly....and mean all programmes were begining to hang.

Looking at the task manager, 100% of the CPU was being used all the time...nightmare.

Now, I started this thread because FF was hanging after about 90% completetion when loading a web page....and what I should also add is that I could never open PDF file in FF...I always had to download them first...which was a royal pain in the backside!!

So onto IE7....and starts to surf "FireFox 100% CPU Usage" ....and lo, a raft of people like myself having problem with FF...

Most the instruction for sorting out the problem was centred around disabling Java in FF....which i did....and fingers, toes, legs, arms all crossed...it seems to have solved the problem on the slowness of the maching and the CPU usuage is way down to average 5%....woohoo....programmes not hanging. Working wonderfully.

However, when I wen to the forum to post this reply on the thread...yes FF still hung at 95%....CPU was still okay. So just posted it back using IE7.

FF it would seem hogs the resourse on a machine...and ties it up for some time, even if FF is shut down.

I will be going back to IE7 until FF sort out the bugs in their system...as I said i didn't seem to be the only one.

I hasten to add, this has been my solution to the problem....and I am not a techy type person....but if other non techies read this...do get the help of a professional....some good one's on here.

Regards

Gordon

That's very strange. The only FF3 problems I've had so far come on certain eBay pages where the sellers have weighed down their listings with all sorts of widgets and applets which crash the browser.
