Hidden Broadband Charges

My sympathy to your parents, . This sort of thing is getting more common, and not just with broadband suppliers. Utility companies, cable TV providers, even car hire firms, are starting to charge for paper invoices and non-direct debit payment. Some also impose quite heavy charges if you pay by direct debit but miss a payment for whatever reason.

Of course, the masters at hidden charges game are the airlines, as anyone who has recently booked a "cheap" flight on Ryanair will tell you.

Very true Mike!

This really bugs me, am I the only person that still enjoys the satisfaction of taking a paper bill to a PO or bank to pay it? :p That said I now pay most of my bills by DD but that is mainly to avoid the charges that we are talking about here.

I know there is less admin overhead for paperless/DD billing but I don't think the cost vs. charge is well matched in the majority of cases.

To be fair to RyanAir, they do make it clear where the charges are when you go through the process of booking a flight. Sam went down to London last week. Five people, £10, return. No additional charges, no fees, no taxes. As long as you do it as it tells you when you go through their checkout and online-check-in processes.

I'm a fan of paperless banking, but I still like other invoices in paper. As long as the charge was transparent and fair, I don't think I'd actually mind paying for it.

I agree with Stugster, I would rather Ryanair give me the option to pay those charges than for them just to charge me anyway (like all of the other airlines do).

In the last 3months I've booked flights to Paris, Brussels and Barcelona for less than £30 in total.
